10 Facts on Animal Testing

  1. Animal testing is at the highest level in 3 decades.
  2. In 2010 surveys showed that 3.7 million procedures were carried out on 3.6 million animals.
  3. Mice represented 72% off all animals that were tested on last year. Fish had a 23% increase from last year and 13% in total.
  4. 3,585 macaque monkeys alone were tested on last year.
  5. Laws in the United States still allow fish, mice, dogs, cats, monkeys, rabbits and other species.
  6. In 2008 mice and macaque monkeys were used in 1,000 extra experiments which is a hike of 35%.
  7. The NIH spent around $30 million on chimpanzee experimentation.
  8. Multiple court cases show that in science laboratories animals are being mistreated. They are getting hit, kicked, and attacked by humans.
  9. Lab workers flip the animal’s eyelids, they shave their hair and rub poisons on their skin, they jab probes down their throat and force feed the animals chemicals.
  10. Scientist are developing alternative methods to use instead of animal testing. These methods will help save animals and will also improve humane safety.
